B - Floor Installation
WALL INSTALLATION

A1 - Locate the wall studs behind the hot water baseboard and mark the center of the stud with a pencil.
If you can not locate the wall studs, your wall may be made of 'lath and plaster' which was used to make interior walls up until the late 1950's.*
- In this case you will need to use 'toggle bolts' to anchor the Baseboard Protector to the wall. For proper installation we recommend using (3/16 inch by 2 inch) toggle bolts.
*If your walls are made of masonry block or cement you will need to use a masonry drill bit and appropriate masonry anchor screws.
A2 - Place the Baseboard Protector over the hot water baseboard. The Baseboard Protector may need to be shifted left or right in order to line up with the wall studs. Install the center of the Baseboard Protector wall anchor hole directly over the center of the wall stud and mark the wall with a pencil. This mark will be needed for the next step A3 Pre-Drilling.
- If the Baseboard Protector needs to be positioned beyond a wall stud, you can use toggle bolts for the wall installation. For proper installation we recommend using (3/16 inch by 2 inch) toggle bolts. |
Prior to the next step you must ensure that the Baseboard Protector is correctly positioned over the hot water baseboard. The top horizontal part of the Baseboard Protector must be parallel with the top of the hot water baseboard and the Baseboard Protector floor anchor holes must be flat on the floor. |
A3 - Pre-drilling - Using a drill with a 3/32 inch drill bit*, pre-drill each of the Baseboard Protector wall anchor holes in the center of the wall studs.
*If you are using toggle bolts, you will need to pre-drill a hole using a 1/2 inch bit. |
A4 - Secure the Baseboard Protector by using (#10 X 2) Wood Flat Phillips - Zinc Screws and (# 12) Stainless Crown Washers. (provided)
*Recommended option not provided - (#10 x 2) One Way Zinc Screws instead of the Phillips Screws.
Installing One Baseboard Protector Next To Another Baseboard Protector:
The Baseboard Protector on the left: pre-drill the wall anchor slightly downward and in toward the center of the wood stud. |
The Baseboard Protector on the right - pre-drill the wall anchor slightly upward and in toward the center of the wood stud.
Secure with screws and washers as stated above. If toggle bolts are used, pre-drill and secure as stated above.
FLOOR INSTALLATION:
Determine the subfloor material. *Never use toggle bolts for a floor application!
Use the following instructions for all subfloor types except cement or any other masonry material. If the subfloor material is cement or any other masonry material you will need to use a masonry bit and masonry anchor screws. (not provided)
